class=The Finest Bubble are holding another unique blind tasting event at 67 Pall Mall. The tasting is a comparison of 8 pairs of Blanc and Rosé Prestige Cuvée Champagnes from the same house. Rosé champagne is often overlooked and as such, we have handpicked some of our favourites for you to enjoy and judge at what promises to be an unforgettable event!

Dom Pérignon 2006 & Rosé 2005
Dom Pérignon P2 1995 & P2 Rosé 1995

Essi Avellan MW Champagne from either of the two black grapes has the ability to be pink; pressing Pinot Noir or Meunier grapes straight after picking gives near white juice. A few Champagne Houses ferment the black grapes with the skins for the pink colour, but a large majority of Houses get the desired Rosé colour by adding 8-20% of locally made red wine from Pinot Noir grown in the warmer villages of Bouzy and Aÿ. The red wine is blended before the still wines enter the bottle for the second fermentation, with the style of Rosé varying significantly depending on the Chef de Cave’s preference. The winemaker might prefer a Rosé Champagne with a hint of influence from the red wine, or alternatively a Champagne that will be distinctly different to the Blanc version, expressing red wine characteristics.

Essi comments: "This is a tasting to travel for! These famous prestige cuvée champagnes are majestic as such but when you add to the tasting their decadent, rarer-than-rare rosé versions, I am expecting an unforgettable evening. Spanning from 1995 to 2009, I am sure this once-in-a-lifetime blind tasting will yield many great surprises."

We will be tasting the Champagnes blind - Blanc first, then Rosé - so that you can decide without any preconceptions which you prefer, and live voting will show us the favourites as Essi guides us through the tasting. We will also be running a competition throughout the evening to see who can correctly identify the pairs and match the Blanc de Blancs and Rosé from the same Champagne house - prizes will be given!

Essi Avellan MW The tasting will be hosted by Essi Avellan MW, who has just completed her comprehensive book on Champagne. Finland’s first Master of Wine, Essi is the author of several wine books and is a reputed wine judge. Guests will receive a copy of her brand new book (Essi Avellan's Champagne - released 20th April 2017), which Essi can personally sign for those of you who are, like us, completely obsessed with Champagne. Read about Essi's book here.

The venue will be 67 Pall Mall. Founded by wine lovers, for wine lovers, this unique private members' club in the heart of historic St James's is both luxurious and welcoming - affording members access to some of the finest and rarest wines in the world, direct from the club's extensive cellars. 67 Pall Mall, St James’s, London, SW1Y 5ES.
