Presenter: Essi Avellan MW

Places are limited to 56 people, order tickets early to avoid disappointment.

Following on from the success of our Bottle vs Magnum Prestige Cuvée tasting in October of 2015, we thought it only fair to offer more people the chance to come and taste the same champagne and see how it has aged differently in different bottle sizes. The wine trade is convinced that magnum is the optimum size for enjoying Champagne, but as with anything to do with Wine or Champagne, flavours and tastes are a matter of personal preference and this tasting will I'm sure show that not everyone will agree with the Wine Trade! Each bottle and magnum will be tasted blind and it will be up to the guest to decide which they prefer. Live voting on-line during the evening will hopefully uncover the most popular Champagne size.
67 Pall Mall
Tickets are available on a first come first served basis to 54 guests at £175.00 per person, and will take place on Thursday 19th May 2016 at the wonderful venue of 67 Pall Mall. The tasting will be hosted by Essi Avellan MW author and journalist specialising in Champagne.

Champagnes being tasted:
Bollinger La Grande Année 2002 Magnum and Bottle
Laurent-Perrier 2002 Magnum & Bottle
Louis Roederer 2002 Magnum & Bottle
Pol Roger 2002 Magnum, Bottle & Jeroboam
Taittinger 2002 Magnum & Bottle
Gosset Celebris 2002 Magnum & Bottle

At the end of the evening the votes will not only reveal, whether Magnum or Bottle is best but also the Champagne of the night!

Essi Avellan MWOur host for the evening is Essi Avellan MW Finland’s first Master of Wine and recognized as a champagne and sparkling wine specialist, Avellan is the author of several wine books, including Matka Champagneen and Parhaat samppanjat. For her MW studies she wrote her dissertation on single-vineyard Champagnes and won both the Lily Bollinger Medal for best taster and the Tim Derouet Memorial Award for best overall student. Essi also holds a Master of Science degree in Business Administration. Essi is a reputed wine judge; in addition to FINE Magazines and The World of Fine Wine tasting panels she had acted as the chair of Decanter World Wine Awards’ Champagne panel and is a jury member at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships. She has been awarded the titles Dame-Officier of Ordre de Coteaux de Champagne and Commandeur of Commanderie de Bordeaux.

The venue will be at 67 Pall Mall - Founded by wine lovers, for wine lovers, 67 Pall Mall is a unique private members' club. In the heart of historic St James's, Sir Edwin Lutyens' magnificent building is being transformed into a luxurious, convivial and welcoming clubhouse. Here, members will be able to enjoy access to some of the finest and rarest wines in the world, direct from the Club's extensive cellars.

The founders' disappointment at being unable to enjoy fine wine at sensible prices is what originally prompted the development of 67 Pall Mall and the goal is to encourage members to pull the cork and discover a new wine as and when they wish. Having already attracted 1,000 members, it's opening in October promises a new era for the world of wine in London and we are thrilled to be hosting our second keynote tasting again with 67 Pall Mall.
