Description & Technical Information
-
The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.

Gevrey-Chambertin is the northernmost of the great communes of the Côte de Nuits. There are 26 Premiers Crus and 8 Grands Crus. Half of the Premiers Crus of Gevrey lie on the Grand Crus east facing slopes; the other half occupy a steep, south-east facing to the north, with careous clay soils. The "Chapelle Chambertin" vineyard is situated on the east facing slope between Latricières Chambertin Grand Cru and Chambertin Clos de Bèze Grand Cru.

The Louis Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is vinified in vats for 3 to 4 weeks and then aged in oak barrels for around 18 to 20 months. This wine will certainly improve up to 20 to 25 years if kept in optimal conditions.

Weather: 2010 was a very fine vintage in Burgundy despite some challenging weather conditions. 2010 is a smaller production, down some 25% on normal levels. The weather began with a cold and wet winter and temperatures hitting -21C with some of the primary buds were burnt off. Around 650,000 cases of wine were lost overnight. Moving to the spring months and flowering season the weather was cool. In September, the savior month, the dry warm days helped produce a classic burgundy vintage. The bright weather continued until the normal harvest that began on 21st September.

Antonio Galloni
“The 2010 Chapelle-Chambertin is dark and brooding. Cool, mineral notes lead to slate, black cherries, tar and licorice. This is a decidedly muscular, intense Burgundy with tons of density and power enshrouded by statuesque tannins. The sheer power and intensity suggest the Chapelle will require considerable patience. This big, dramatic wine is built for the cellar, but it is without question a showstopper, even today. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2045.”

Stephen Tanzer
“Good full, medium red. Expressive, nuanced aromas of strawberry, raspberry, crushed stone, smoke and flowers. Glyceral yet light on its feet, with a suave, silky texture to its vibrant, savory red fruit, floral and mineral flavors. Not at all a superripe style: really perks up the palate and leaves the mouth refreshed on the very long, sweet/savory finish. This classy grand cru finishes with captivating perfumed lift.”
