The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.

Location: Situated in the south of the Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the 5 villages of the prestigious «Côte de Blancs». Facing east and south-east, white Premier Cru soils are mainly made of brown clay and limestone. Chassagne-Montrachet produces 70 hectares of premiers crus.

Vineyard: Morgeot is one of the top two or three 1er Crus (climats) of the village. ‘Clos de la Chapelle’ surrounds an old Chapelle. Domaine Duc de Magenta is a superb Domaine exclusively vinified and distributed by Louis Jadot on a long term contract basis. Inside the Morgeot 1er cru vineyard, Duc de Magenta owns the Monopoly (sole owner) of the ‘Clos de La Chapelle‘.

Vinification & Maturation: Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels produced by the CADUS cooperage. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling.

Weather in 2010: After a difficult and unpredictable 2010 vintage in Burgundy, Louis Jadot is pleased with the quality of the grapes harvested. Despite challenges such as a long cold winter, disrupted flowering, disease pressure, frost, and hail in some areas, careful vineyard management helped ensure healthy grape development. Favorable weather in September allowed harvesting to begin on 21 September under good conditions. Yields were relatively small, but grape quality—particularly in the Côte de Nuits—was strong. In the Côte de Beaune, careful sorting through the grapes was more necessary because rain had been more frequent here. Overall the crop was quite small compared to some other years but the results are much more promising than many had anticipated.

Technical Information:
Grape Varieties: 100% Chardonnay
Region: Côte de Beaune
Vineyard: Morgeot
Drink: Now to 2036

Tasting Note: Jadot’s 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos de La Chapelle, from deeper soils on the back of the Abbaye de Morgeot, possesses gorgeous depth, but it is also tightly wound and inward. Cool, saline notes dominate today, but there is more than enough fruit to allow the 2010 to develop beautifully in bottle over the coming years. The huge, textured finish leaves a lasting impression. - Tasting note from Robertparker.com

Stephen Tanzer
“Pale, bright yellow. Lemon and a whiff of apple on the nose. Then concentrated and densely packed, with harmonious acidity contributing to the impression of inner-mouth floral perfume. Finishes juicy and long, with a firm edge that will require five years of cellaring. This displays the power and thrust of the vintage.”

“In contrast, Jadot’s 2010 Chassagne-Montrachet Morgeot Clos de La Chapelle, from deeper soils on the back of the Abbaye de Morgeot, possesses gorgeous depth, but it is also tightly wound and inward. Cool, saline notes dominate today, but there is more than enough fruit to allow the 2010 to develop beautifully in bottle over the coming years. The huge, textured finish leaves a lasting impression. It would be fascinating to taste both of the Jadot wines from the Abbaye de Morgeot in ten years’ time. Anticipated maturity: 2015+.”

Allen Meadows
“There is good intensity to the powerful large-scaled flavors that possess a distinct malic acid tang on the energetic finish. This seems to have the richness and mid-palate concentration to eventually stand up to the firm acid spine but for the moment, the acidity has the upper hand.”

“Very full and round, ripe and easy to love. Lots of creamy appeal. Then vitality and energy on the finish. Very nice wine, but maybe not for the very long term.”
