The village of Vougeot is in the centre of the Côte de Nuits, flanked on the north by Chambolle Musigny and on the south by Flagey Echezeaux and Vosne Romanée. The 50 ha vineyard faces the east. The geological c omposition ranges from chalky, stoney clay on the higher parts of the slope, to moist, compact soil richer in humus and with fewer stones on the lower slopes. Maison louis Jadot is the secnod owner of the Clos Vougeot vineyard with a bit more than 2 hectares.

Weather: 2010 was a very fine vintage in Burgundy despite some challenging weather conditions. 2010 is a smaller production, down some 25% on normal levels. The weather began with a cold and wet winter and temperatures hitting -21C with some of the primary buds were burnt off. Around 650,000 cases of wine were lost overnight. Moving to the spring months and flowering season the weather was cool. In September, the savior month, the dry warm days helped produce a classic burgundy vintage. The bright weather continued until the normal harvest that began on 21st September.

“Medium red. Tight but pure nose offers redcurrant, red cherry, minerals, flowers, licorice and menthol, plus a high note of orange zest. On the palate, terrific inner-mouth energy gives sharp definition to the intense flavors of red berries, spices and menthol. Finishes with serious, firm tannins and an impression of weightlessness. For a taut wine that's built for a graceful evolution in bottle, this is remarkably pliant today.”

“The 2010 Clos Vougeot bursts onto the palate with a rush of dark red fruit. This is another wine that had a very slow malolactic fermentation (at the time of this tasting there was a portion of the wine still finishing its malo). The 2010 needs time to find its balance but the raw materials are superb. ”

“Good full red. Rather hermetic, reduced nose hints at black cherry and botanical herbs. Extremely rich but closed, with a medicinal reserve to the black cherry, menthol and pepper flavors. Best today on the very long, strong finish, where the youthful tannins grab the palate and don't let go. This will need extended cellaring.”
