The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.
Location: The village of Vougeot lies at the heart of the Côte de Nuits, bordered to the north by Chambolle-Musigny and to the south by Flagey-Échezeaux and Vosne-Romanée. Enclosed by a continuous stone wall,
Clos de Vougeot is the largest enclosed vineyard in the world and the largest Grand Cru in Burgundy: a majestic 51-hectare, east-facing vineyard shared by nearly 90 owners. It is little wonder that Burgundy can seem complex, as beyond location, the producer plays a decisive role.
The vineyard’s geology varies significantly, from chalky, stony clay on the upper slopes to deeper, more compact soils richer in humus and with fewer stones lower down the hillside. Maison Louis Jadot owns just over two hectares within the Clos. The Château de Clos de Vougeot stands in the north-west corner of the appellation.
Vinification and Maturation: Destemmed grapes ferment in vats over 3 to 4 weeks, followed by barrel maturation of 18 months in in oak barrels produced by the CADUS cooperage.
Weather: 2015 began with a cool, wet winter, causing slightly late budbreak, but a warm, dry spring and very hot June rapidly sped up vine growth. After some mid-summer heat and drought stress, late July and August rain helped ripening. Harvest was early and quick, with average white yields, low red yields, and grapes showing excellent balance—especially unusually high acidity in whites—making 2015 an outstanding vintage.

Tasting Note: The 2015 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru has an expressive nose with red cherry, cranberry and strawberry fruit, a feminine bouquet with neatly integrated new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, quite tensile in the mouth with a slightly pinched, compact finish that should broaden out once it has completed its élevage. - Tasted by Neal Martin
