Louis Jadot Overview
+
The commune of Aloxe-Corton has the unusual distinction of having over half its area covered in Grand Cru vineyards.
It has an exposure ranging from east to south and Southwest. The Grand Cru vineyard of Les Pougets is directly adjacent to Le Charlemagne climat, on the upper and mid-slope. It is among the five vineyards of the commune in which the variegated soils, alternating between chalk and iron-rich marl, produce both Corton Pougets and Corton Charlemagne.

Jadot purchased this great vineyard in 1914; it faces due south and consistently produces wines with incredible depth and generosity, rich fruit and powerful structure that develop breathtaking complexity with age. This wine is fermented in vats for 3-4 weeks and then aged 18-20 months in oak barrels before bottling. This exceptional site yields a wine of sumptuous brilliance and complexity, powerfully structured and richly fruited. The aromatic Pinot Noir bouquet and deep, layered berry and oak flavours culminate in a seductive, persistent finish.

Weather:
2010 was a very fine vintage in Burgundy despite some challenging weather conditions. 2010 is a smaller production, down some 25% on normal levels. The weather began with a cold and wet winter and temperatures hitting -21C with some of the primary buds were burnt off. Around 650,000 cases of wine were lost overnight. Moving to the spring months and flowering season the weather was cool. In September, the savior month, the dry warm days helped produce a classic burgundy vintage. The bright weather continued until the normal harvest that began on 21st September.

Tasting Note: Typically muted but now after a few years, the flavours are bold. Dark cherry and black fruit on the palate with serious concentration. Quite dry without being astringent but will be great with food in the medium term

“The 2010 Louis Jadot Corton Pougets is one of the more understated wines in this tasting. The fruit is less explosive than in some of the other wines. Instead, it is the wine’s pure texture, balance and underlying energy that stand out. All the elements are in the right place in a wine that is likely to provide a wide window of pure drinking pleasure. ”

“Chalky and smooth. Rich, violets nose. Lots of fruit and then bitter finish. Bitter cherries. Does taste rather more premier cru than grand cru… Dry finish. Quite high up the slope.”
