Description & Technical Information
-
The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.

Location: Beaune vineyards are the most extensive of the Côte de Beaune, between Savigny to the North, and Pommard to the South. There are no Grands Crus vineyards in this commune, but there are 36 Premiers Crus.

Vineyard: Les Theurons vineyards consist of four parcels descending the slope above the city of Beaune, which divide the northern Premiers Crus f rom the southern ones. Domaine des Héritiers Jadot is proprietor in Theurons, which was one of the earliest acquisitions in the 1830’s.

Vinification & Maturation: The grapes bear small little dark red berries. The bunches are destemmed; they macerate in open vats during 4 weeks helping this subtle terroir to reveal itself. After devatting, the wines are aged in oak barrels during 18 months.

Weather: 2015 has been drawn to comparisons to the excellent 2005. A wet winter was needed to replenish the soils that had been left dry from the previous hot, dry summer. Patches of rain throughout the year ensured a freshness in the grapes. The nights were hot in late June and July and as a result saw some fruits fall off the bunches leading to lower yields. The grape structure had thick skins which mean ripe tannins and polyphenols. 2015 is set to be a great vintage for both reds and whites.

Tasting Note: Bright fresh red. Aromas of red cherry, raspberry and liquorice are complicated by notes of smoke, minerals and leather. Tightly wound, even a bit youthfully tough, but conveys the vintage's inviting freshness of fruit. Earth and spice tones add interest to the wine's fruit on the ripely tannic, broad finish. - Tasted by Stephen Tanzer 2016

“Bright garnet. Racy ‘mineral’ element on the nose. With just a hint of damp rope. Lots going on here! Real punch of bitter cherries on the end. Quite long.”
