Description & Technical Information
-
The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.

Location: Ladoix is a village located to the north of Côte de Beaune, to the north-east of the village called Aloxe-Corton, next to the famous hill of Corton. The altitude is between 220 and 360 m and the exposure is east/south-east. The soil contains clay and marls.

Vineyard: This vineyard is located on a soft slope with a nice exposure. The soil is stony and not very deep. The vineyard is about twenty years old and is cultivated by maison Louis Jadot since 2007.

Vinification & Maturation: Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels produced by our cooperage. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling.

Weather in 2019: The white wines from this vintage are fascinating, offering plenty of ripe fruit which is counterbalanced by acidity levels which are similar to those in the best recent Chardonnay vintages of ’17 and ’14. Growers were utterly bemused by the hitherto unseen combination of ripeness and freshness: with such a hot and dry season, achieving that balance is quite remarkable.

“One of the finest values in the range is the 2019 Ladoix Le Clou d'Orge (Domaine Gagey), a bright and chiseled wine that evokes pear, waxy citrus peel, struck match and vanilla pod. Medium to full-bodied, layered and incisive, it concludes with a saline, mouthwatering finish.”
