Description & Technical Information

The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.

Meursault is the centre of the four communes (Meursault, Blagny, Chassagne and Puligny) comprising that part of the Côte de Beaune known as the Côte des Blancs, named for the quality and predominance of its white wines.

The brown soil is rather deep, made of different layers, above the mother rock. Les Charmes is East oriented from the bottom of the slope to the mid-slope.

Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months before bottling.

Weather in 2018: After plentiful rain and a perfect flowering an exceptional quantity of grapes were picked pretty early after the long hot summer. They yielded a surprising amount of juice but, generally, no lack of concentration. The unexpectedly crisp wines charmed early tasters. It remains to be seen how they will age.

James Suckling
“Very opulent white with pure apple, mango and lemon-pie character. Some toffee undertones. Full-bodied with depth and intensity on the palate, creamy texture and a frame of acidity. Lots of flavor with a nice, wood and vanilla complement to the fruit at the end. Drink or hold.”

“The 2018 Meursault Charmes 1er Cru, Jadot’s second vintage from this vineyard, offers an intense bouquet of jasmine, dried honey and grilled walnut scents that seem well defined, if not quite as precise as some of the vineyard’s other exponents. The palate is fresh and well defined on the entry, with a slightly honeyed texture, a faint tang of marmalade and quince and a lightly spiced, quite persistent finish that feels satisfying, even if not as tensile as the Meursault-Blagny by direct comparison. Fine. ”
