Description & Technical Information

The House of Louis Jadot has been producing exceptional Burgundy wines since its founding in 1859 by Louis Henry Denis Jadot. For the past 150 years Louis Jadot has continued as one of the great names of Burgundy and has gained international reputation for its superb red and white Burgundy wines. Louis Jadot is not only one of the largest producers of estate Burgundies of the Cote d'Or, it is one of the most celebrated exporters of premium Burgundies, owning close to 140 acres of vineyards from 24 of the most prestigious sites in Burgundy.

Location: Puligny-Montrachet, situated to the south of Meursault and to the north of Chassagne Montrachet, shares with Chassagne a handful of the greatest white wine vineyards in the world. The Premier Cru vineyards of Puligny Montrachet, noted for the exceptionally high and consistent quality of the wines they produce, stretch across the upper half of Puligny's slope from Meursault to Chassagne.

Vineyard: The Folatières climate lies near the summit of this slope, above Clos de la Garenne roughly midway between Meursault and Montrachet. The clay and chalk soil, which is very stony, drains well and warms through easily. This wine is vinified and then aged in wooden barrels for 12-15 months before bottling.

Vinification and Maturation: Grapes are harvested by hand and put in small cases in order not to damage the fruits. Grapes are pressed softly, they ferment in oak barrels produced by our cooperage. 1/3 are new barrels. Aging usually lasts 15 months on fine lies before bottling.

Tasting Note: Bright light yellow. High-pitched scents of steely crushed stone and flowers. Juicy and flavorful without any impression of weight, with its energetic white peach and lemon flavors offering excellent definition. Finishes persistent and firm-edged, with a lovely sweet/salty balance and no shortage of acidity. - Tasting note by Stephen Tanzer

“The 2015 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Folatières, under the "Domaine Héritiers du Jadot" label, was more reserved than the Puligny Clos de la Garenne when I tasted them side by side, but it opens with attractive limestone and granitic aromas. The palate is crisp on the entry with vibrant acidity, well balanced with orange zest and a touch of tangy marmalade lending complexity on the taut and focused finish. Excellent - this is one of Jadot's best whites this vintage. Drink 2018 - 2028”
