Description & Technical Information

Located in the Aconcagua Valley, 40 kilometres from the Pacific Ocean, Seña’s 42-hectare hillside vineyard was planted in 1999 to key red Bordeaux varieties. The colluvial soils on the valley’s slopes present a variety of textures and proportions of stone content, resulting in a great diversity of well-drained gravel and rocky soils with loam to clay-loam texture. The climate is Mediterranean, with a long dry season and rainfall concentrated in winter. Due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, the median temperatures are low, however, the vineyard’s position on the eastern side of the Coastal Mountains, facing away from the sea, protects the vines from the direct effect of the ocean’s strong, cold winds and creates cool-climate conditions, perfect for producing red grapes that reach an excellent level of maturity with balanced acidity that provide great elegance and finesse.

Weather: The Aconcagua Valley suffered a hard spring frost in September 2013 that caused a great deal of damage to the early buds and ultimately delayed shoot development and decreased the total number of bunches per plant. Temperatures increased gradually during the growth period, and shoot development was completed by mid-November. Normal temperatures during flowering and the absence of rainfall resulted in good fruit set, and the warm and rain-free conditions in early summer enabled a short, even veraison. Temperatures decreased gradually during the ripening phase in February and March and ultimately dropped below historic averages. As a result, ripening was slow and well balanced and the final wines have very good tension, tremendous tannic structure and depth as well as excellent aromas and flavour intensity.

“Complex aromas of blueberry, rose petal, licorice, and currant. Full body, ultra fine tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Balanced and very refined. A wonderful purity and beauty. Give it three to four years to come together but already a beauty. A blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon, 16% carmenere, 11% malbec, 8% merlot and 5% petit verdot.”
