Zuccardi Concreto Malbec 2022
-
Sebastian Zuccardi, along with his grandfather, Alberto Zuccardi, planted the first Zuccardi vines in a small plot in Maipu in the Mendoza region in 1963. There has been no looking back for the family ever since. Today, the Zuccardi family is known for its young, intelligent and enterprising winemaking team at the helm of the winemaking affairs. This label is known to produce some of the highest quality of wines not only in the Uco Valley, but in the world as well. In 2008, Sebastian Zuccardi added a special Research and Development Wing in the family winery, to learn and analyse more about the terroirs. Different types of microclimates prevail in the farms or vineyards where grapes are produced for Zuccardi wines. Located in the Uco Valley, which is at the Andes Mountains' foothills in Mendoza, these vineyards enjoy the benefits of altitude, cool and dry climate throughout the year.
The Vineyards:
Paraje Altamira: Located on the plain that extends south of the source of the Tunuyán River, between 1050 and 1150 meters of altitude, Paraje Altamira occupies the highest part of its alluvial fan. This place has a cool temperate climate, with great thermal amplitude. Its soils stand out for the presence of a large conglomerate of stones and granite gravel covered with calcareous material, where huge rocks can be found weighing up to 20 tons.
Gualtallary: At the foot of the Frontal Mountain Range, between 1,200 and 1,500 meters above sea level, Gualtallary has a temperate and arid climate: a true high-altitude desert. It rugged terrain among the Jaboncillo Hills enclose very diverse soils with abundant calcareous material, formed by distinct layers of sand, caliche and stones.
Vinification: Fermentation with native yeasts in concrete amphorae. All of the grapes ferment with whole bunches. Aged in concrete vessels.
Weather: The 2022 vintage was fresh and well balanced. The particular combination of high insolation with low temperatures allowed the vine to ripen steadily and keep its natural acidity intact. These conditions gave rise to elegant, fine and complex wines, with a great balance between juiciness and freshness.

Tasting Note: Sourced from Altamira and Gualtallary, the 2022 Concreto Malbec opens with a fragrant, dark-fruited, balsamic and floral nose followed by an elegantly rich, precise and tensile palate. It culminates in a long, chalky and refined finish that deftly balances crystalline mineral notes, fine-grained tannins and weightless power. This is a beautiful iteration of a cuvée that routinely offers a definitive example of contemporary Uco Valley Malbec for a competitive price point. - Tasted by Matthew Luczy
