Louis Roederer Blanc de Blancs 2019 is crafted exclusively from Grand Cru Chardonnay sourced from four plots in Avize. The grapes, harvested on 13 September 2019, underwent fermentation with 23% in wood casks and five years of lees ageing. This champagne exhibits bright lemon sorbet notes alongside a refreshing minerality, offering a balanced structure and lasting energy.

As the largest independent family-managed Champagne producer, Louis Roederer rank amongst the region's absolute finest. Established in 1776, the House today is managed by seventh generation family member Frédéric Rouzaud alongside long-time Chef de Cave and Champagne legend Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon. They own an astounding 242 hectares of vineyards many in chalk rich Grand Cru villages covering two-thirds of their grape requirements. Roederer have become pioneers in biodynamic farming & by 2012 all 78 hectares the “Cristal Estates” are farmed using biodynamic methods. By 2021 Roederer have 115 hectares certified organic. All the grapes in Cristal & other vintage cuvee’s come from their own vineyards. The estate is made up of 410 plots which are fermented separately in one of the 450 stainless steel tanks in their Reims cellars. In 2020 Roederer replaced Brut Premier with “Collection” allowing each years non-vintage blend to be identified and “re-engineering” the non-vintage cuvee to maintain freshness in the light of global warming on the Champagne region. Today Cristal is, widely recognised as the world's most awarded prestige cuvée champagne.

In the heart of the Côte des Blancs, where Chardonnay expresses itself with such incredible finesse on the famous limestone soils, Louis Roederer selected one plot from their vineyards in Avize Grand Crus for their Blanc de Blancs 2019. This plots in Avize have distinct characteristics and in the difficult vintage only grapes from the south facing slopes attained the required level of ripeness. This pure-Chardonnay champagne quickly became the favourite wine of the Roederer family for major events and is 100% estate-bottled from the grapes of their historic vineyards. Fermented at a slightly lower pressure for ideal balance with the fresh acidity, 23% of the wines were fermented in wood casks.

Weather in 2019: This was a unique year, marked by sunshine and erratic weather, with intense and at times brutal extremes. However, the 2019 wines turned out to be a combination of quality, maturity, and concentration. One word defines this vintage: Exceptional! The harvest took place on 13 September 2019.

Tasting Note: A bright medium yellow color, the 2019 Champagne Blanc de Blancs is focused on the nose and is an exciting wine because it’s beautiful and friendly yet still carries real structure. It has lemon sorbet and creamy cheese notes, with concentration and beauty but also vertical minerality. It’s a gorgeous Chardonnay with long-lasting energy and length, and the mousse is refreshing and springy, bringing fresh energy throughout. - Tasted by Jeb Dunnuck
As the largest independent family-managed Champagne producer, Louis Roederer rank amongst the region's absolute finest. Established in 1776, the House is currently managed by seventh generation family member Frédéric Rouzaud alongside long-time Chef de Cave and Champagne legend Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon. Chef de Cave History at Champagne Louis Roederer:

Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon 1999 - Current | Jean-Baptiste Lécaillon has been the Chef de Cave at Louis Roederer since 1999, making him one of the youngest to hold the position in Champagne. He joined the company in 1989 and has played a significant role in shaping the house's style and approach to winemaking, particularly in the area of organic and biodynamic practices. He was instrumental in the transition of Louis Roederer to biodynamic farming, which now covers a large portion of their vineyards. Lécaillon's background in viticulture and oenology from the École Nationale Supérieure d'Agronomie in Montpellier, France, has been instrumental in his success. His work has had a significant impact on the renowned Cristal cuvée. Lécaillon's work at Roederer Estate in Tasmania and Anderson Valley, California, has provided him with a broad understanding of winemaking in different regions. Since taking the position, he has become the youngest Chef de Cave in Champagne.

“Attractive aromas of cooked apples, brioche and light toast that follow through to a full body with fruit flavors and very fine bubbles. Persistent and rich at the end. Lots of flavor. From hillside vineyard near the town of Avize.”

“Though minerally on the nose, this bursts with fruit flavors on the palate, offering a panoply of pineapple, passion fruit, pear and coconut notes, with accents of toast point, pastry cream and grated ginger. Creamy and finely meshed, this shows good tension and drive, with racy acidity providing a sleek, sculpted form. Mouthwatering and well-spiced on the finish.”
