All Louis Roederer vintage champagnes are made using grapes from their own estate. Fascinated by the aromatic diversity of Pinot Noir in Champagne, Louis Roederer use the structure and power of the Pinot Noir grapes from the Montagne de Reims to create their Brut Vintage blend. Exposed to the north-east, these vineyards produce grapes that mature much slower, thereby making wines that are sometimes rough and closed at the beginning of the ageing process. However, the character of the Pinot Noir intensifies and becomes more refined through long ageing in wood. It is the Pinot Noirs from the Grand Cru rated village of Verzenay in particular that give the champagnes their velvety, creamy and elegant palate.

The Chardonnay from the most east facing vineyards in Chouilly brings the richness and generosity to the champagne. Some of the wine (the percentage varies each year) is fermented in large oak tanks and once in the bottle, the champagnes ages on the lees for at least four years and is rested for six months after disgorgement to attain optimal maturity.

Weather: Mostly a warm year, 2007 was characterised by unexpected major weather events. A warm spring was followed by a cool summer, although the end of the ripening process was excellent, with harvests taking place in ideal conditions.

Technical Information:
Vineyards: 90% Grand & Premier Cru
Grape Varieties: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay
Ageing: 4 years on the lees
Disgorged: 2013
Dosage: 8-10 g/l
Drink: Now to 2025

Tasting Note: The slow, regular flow of bubbles is perfectly integrated into the structure of this champagne. The bouquet is rich and heady, with a complex succession of juicy pears, light raspberry liqueur and hazelnut. The bite is an explosion of flavours and silky substance that reinforce the smooth caress of the Pinot Noir - all with an overwhelming freshness that is wholly part of the texture. This Brut Millésime 2007 is a fine expression of the measured power of Pinot Noir.

Expert Reviews
92/100
Josh Raynolds
“Light, bright yellow-gold. Potent, smoke-tinged citrus and orchard fruit aromas show very good clarity and an overlay of zesty minerals. Taut and sharply focused, offering Meyer lemon, orange and pear flavors and a hint of anise. Fleshier on the finish, which clings with very good tenacity and repeating smokiness. Very approachable, in the style of the vintage, but balanced to reward some cellaring. One-third of this wine was aged in oak.”

“Deep lemon colour. Really rich, overt, developing, ripe fruit nose overlaid by an impressive toasty, yeasty, spicy note. Textbook Pinot depth. Sweet, succulent, round and smooth, pleasurable palate with the smoothest mousse. A long, fresh, polished finish with a fine acid/sugar balance. Solid Gold at the 2014 CSWWC.”

“While 2007 was not the greatest vintage, Roederer managed to produce one of the best wines of the year. It is a great blend of mature yellow fruits, with a pure line of tangy orange zest. Tightly txtured, with bright acidity and steely minerality, it promises long aging. Drink until 2025, and possibly longer.”

“From Cumières. Very faint peach shade. Apple fruit, sweet spices, soft sherbet palate with very tart acidity. Autolysis just emerging, not much complexity. Beautifully sweet fruit though, and very youthful still. Even so, solid but not thrilling.”
